2016 was sometimes called "The Year of Celebrity Death", because of how many notable people died (David Bowie, Prince, Carrie Fisher, Gene Wilder, etc...). That made me start wondering who would die this year.
So, I've compiled a list of people who have passed on this year.
(I was inspired by a comment on David Bowie's "Life on Mars?" music video.)

Mário Soares: This Portuguese freedom fighter, who was also its 17th president, died January 7th at the age of 92.
Tony Rosato: The Italian-Canadian actor most known as Marcello Sebastiani on Saturday Night Live and (Mama) Luigi from the Super Mario World cartoon passed away on January 10th at 62.
William Peter Blatty: The author of The Exorcist and its movie adaptation died on January 12th. He was 89.
Jimmy Snuka: The man who introduced the high-flying style of wrestling moves to WWE died on January 15th from dementia, aged 73.
Eugene Cernan: The most recent person to walk on the moon, Cernan died on January 16th, at 82 years old.
Miguel Ferrer: This actor, notable for playing the villain Shan-Yu in Mulan, and also being George Clooney's cousin, died after a battle with throat cancer on January 19th, only being 61 years old.
John Hurt: Most recognizable as Ollivander in the first Harry Potter film, died of pancreatic cancer on January 25th at the age of 77.
Mary Tyler Moore: Notable for her performances on The Mary Tyler Moore Show and The Dick Van Dyke Show, she passed away from complications from pneumonia at the age of 80, also on January 25th.
Geoff Nicholls: The keyboardist for Black Sabbath died at 68 years old on January 28th, at the age of 68.
Richard Hatch: The actor for Captain Apollo on the original Battlestar Galactica TV show died on February 7th of pancreatic cancer. He was 71 years old.
Al Jarreau: Best known for his album Breakin' Away, Jarreau "broke away from life" on February 12th at 76, due to respitory failure.
George "The Animal" Steele: Real name William Myers, this WWE superstar died of kidney failure at the age of 79 on February 16th.
Norma McCorvey: Better known as "Jane Roe", McCorvey was the plaintiff in the "Roe v. Wade" Supreme Court Case that made abortion legal in the United States. She died of heart failure at the age of 69 on February 18th.
Bill Paxton: Notable for his roles in Aliens, Titanic, and Spy Kids (2 and 3), Paxton died on February 25th due to complications from heart surgery.
Joseph Wapner: The first judge of The People's Court died at 97 on February 26th following respiratory failure.
Chuck Berry: The rock and roll pioneer, most famous for his song Johnny B. Goode, died at 90 on March 18th.
David Rockefeller: A billionaire philanthropist, the last surviving grandson of John D. Rockefeller Sr. died on March 20th at the ripe old age of 101.
Chuck Barris: Creator and host of game shows The Gong Show and The Dating Game, Barris died on March 21st at 87 years old.
Gilbert Baker: The man who designed the LGBT rainbow flag, Baker died of cardiovascular disease on March 31st, at 65 years old.
Don Rickles: A regular on The Dean Martin Show and the voice of Mr. Potato Head in the first 3 Toy Story films, Rickles died at the age of 90 on April 6th, from kidney failure.
Charlie Murphy: A cast member of Chapelle's Show and the older brother of actor Eddie Murphy, Charlie Murphy died on April 12th from leukemia, at 57 years old.
Emma Morano: The last verified living person born in the 1800s, Morano passed away on April 15th at 117 years old. At the time of her death, she was the 5th oldest person ever.
Aaron Hernandez: Football player Aaron Hernandez committed suicide at the age of 27 in prison on April 19th, despite being found innocent of a double homicide.
Erin Moran: The actress known for playing Joanie Cunningham in Happy Days and its spin-off Joanie Loves Chachi, Moran died on April 22nd at 56 years old.
Michele Scarponi: This Italian bike racer and winner of the 2011 Giro d'Italia was killed in a car accident on April 22nd at the age of 37.
Jonathan Demme: The director of The Silence of the Lambs died from esophageal cancer on April 26th. He was 73.
Christopher "Big Black" Boykin: Half of MTV's Rob & Big, Boykin died on May 9th of heart problems. He was 45 years old.
Roger Ailes: The CEO of Fox News who resigned in 2016 after a notorious sexual harassment scandal died on May 18th at 77.
Chris Cornell: The lead singer for Soundgarden and Audioslave, Cornell committed suicide on May 18th, only 52 years old.
Nicky Hayden: The winner of the 2006 MotoGP died on May 22nd from a traumatic brain injury sustained from a car accident 5 days earlier. He was only 35 years old.
Roger Moore: The James Bond in Live and Let Die, The Man with the Golden Gun, and The Spy Who Loved Me died after a brief battle with cancer at the age of 89, on May 23rd.
Zbigniew Brzezinski: The National Security Adviser under Jimmy Carter and father of Morning Joe co-host Mika Brzezinski, "Zbig" died on May 26th at 89 years old.
Gregg Allman: The Allman Brothers Band performer and husband of Cher died at 69 years old from liver cancer on May 27th.
John Noakes: The host of the longtime-running children's show Blue Peter from 1965 to 1978 died from Alzheimer's on May 28th.
Manuel Noriega: The Panamanian dictator died not in prison, but from complications with brain surgery on May 29th, at 83 years old.
Peter Sallis: The voice of Wallace from Wallace and Gromit died on June 2nd at 96 years old.
Sam Panopoulos: The person who invented pineapple pizza died on June 8th at 82.
Adam West: Known for playing Batman in the 1966 series and fictional versions of himself (most notably Mayor West in Family Guy), 88 year-old William West Anderson died after a short battle with leukemia on June 9th.
John G. Avildsen: The director who brought us Rocky and The Karate Kid died on June 16th at 81 years old. Pancreatic cancer was the cause of death.
Stephen Furst: "Flounder" from Animal House died on June 16th from diabetes, at the age of 63.
Helmut Kohl: The man who reunited Germany died at 87 years old on June 16th.
Otto Warmbier: An American citizen detained in North Korea, Warmbier died on June 19th after 6 days after his return to the USA. He was only 22.
Michael Nyqvist: This Swedish actor, notable in The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and John Wick died on June 27th from lung cancer. He was 56 years old.
Simone Veil: Holocaust survivor and the 12th president of the French Parliament, Veil died on June 30th at the age of 89, two weeks shy of her 90th birthday.
Liu Xiaobo: Chinese human rights activist and Nobel Prize laureate Liu Xiaobao died from liver cancer on July 13th at 61 years old, still a political prisoner.
Maryam Mirzakhani: An Iranian mathematician and the first woman to win the Fields Medal, Mirzakhani died at 40 years old from breast cancer, on July 14th.
Martin Landau: Actor in the Mission: Impossible TV series and Ed Wood, Landau died on July 15th; 89 years old.
George A. Romero: The father of the modern zombie movie (Night of the Living Dead; Dawn of the Dead), Romero died after a short battle with lung cancer at the age of 77, on July 16th.  
Chester Bennington: The lead singer for Linkin Park killed himself on July 20th. He was 41 years old.
John Heard: The actor who played Peter McAllister in the first 2 Home Alone movies and a nominee for an Emmy for his guest work on The Sopranos. He died on July 21st at the age of 71.
Barbara Sinatra: The fourth and final wife of Frank Sinatra and the founder of a center for abused children died at 90 years old on July 25th.
June Foray: The iconic voice actress for Rocky and Natasha from Rocky and Bullwinkle, Granny from Looney Tunes, Cindy Lou Who from How the Grinch Stole Christmas, Magica de Spell from DuckTales and many more voice roles died on July 26th, less than 2 months from her 100th birthday.
Sam Shepard: The Pulitzer Award winner for Buried Child and Academy Award nominee for The Right Stuff passed on July 27th at the age of 73 from ALS. 
Jeffrey Brotman: The co-founder and chairman of retail giant CostCo died on August 1st at 74 years old.
Robert Hardy: This British actor, most known for Cornelius Fudge in several Harry Potter films, was 91 when he died on August 3rd.
Haruo Nakajima: The Japanese actor who portrayed Godzilla in the original 1954 film and for 11 movies after that died on August 7th. He was 88 years old.
Glen Campbell: The legendary country singer, who had been suffering from Alzheimer's since 2011, died on August 8th at the age of 81.
Yisrael Kristal: The oldest living man in the world at the time of his death. Kristal died on August 11th at the age of 113.
Sonny Landham: An actor known for his roles in Predator and 48 Hours, as well as an unsuccessful candidate for Governor of Kentucky died on August 17th, aged 76, from heart failure.
Bruce Forsyth: English TV presenter and the person with the longest career for a male entertainer (1939-2015), Bruce Forsyth died on August 18th at 89 years old.
Dick Gregory: This American civil rights activist (Gregory v. City of Chicago) and stand-up comedian died on August 19th from heart failure at 84 years old.
Jerry Lewis: This comedian, famous for being part of the duo that made up Martin and Lewis and his role in The Nutty Professor died at the age of 91 on August 20th.
Colin Meads: The rugby legend, who had been called New Zealand's Player of the Century in 1999, died on August 20th at the age of 81. He had battled pancreatic cancer for a year. 
Tobe Hooper: The director of classic horror films The Texas Chain Saw Massacre and Poltergeist died on August 26th; 74 years old.
Richard Anderson: The actor for Oscar Goldman in The Six Million Dollar Man and The Bionic Woman died on August 31st; he was 91 years old.
Shelley Berman: The 92-year old comedian and actor in Divorce American Style, Meet the Fockers, and You Don't Mess With the Zohan died on September 1st after a battle with Alzheimer's.
Walter Becker: Co-founder of the band Steely Dan and included in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Becker died on September 3rd at the age of 67.
Gene Michael: The baseball manager who made the New York Yankees one of the best baseball teams of the 90s died on September 7th, at 79 years old.
Troy Gentry: One half of the country duo Montgomery Gentry known for albums such as Tattoos & Scars, My Town, and You Do Your Thing and their single Gone, Gentry was tragically killed in a helicopter crash at the age of 50 on September 8th.
Don Williams: A country singer with 17 number one hits, the "Gentle Giant" of country music passed away on September 8th at 78 years old.
Xavier Atencio: A Disney animator and Imagineer who wrothe the lyrics for rides such as the Haunted Mansion and Pirates of the Caribbean, "X" Atencio died on September 10th at 98 years old.
Len Wein: The comic book writer who co-created superheroes Wolverine and Swamp Thing. Wein died on September 10th at the age of 69.
Edith Windsor: The plaintiff of United States v. Windsor, a Supreme Court case that helped with the legalization of same-sex marriage, the LGBT activist died on September 12th at the age of 88.
Grant Hart: One of the menbers of the band Hüsker Dü, one of the people who expanded the genre of hard rock died of liver cancer at 56 years old on September 13th.
Frank Vincent: One of Martin Scorsese' major actors (most notably Billy Batts in Goodfellas), Frank died during an open-heart surgery after a heart attack on September 13th, at the age of 80.
Violet Brown: The world's oldest person since the passing of Emma Morano (see above), the 117 year-old and the last surviving subject of Queen Victoria passed away due to dehydration on September 15th.
Harry Dean Stanton: The 91 year-old actor known for roles since the late 50s (most notably Alien and The Green Mile) died on September 15th.
Bobby Heenan: A WWE wrestler and the manager of Andre the Giant, Ric Flair, and CM Punk died on September 17th from throat cancer. He was 72.
Jake LaMotta: Considered one of the greatest boxers of all time, LaMotta died of pneumonia on September 19th; 95 years old.
Liliane Bettencourt: The heiress of French cosmetics giant L'Oreal, the richest woman ever (net worth $44.9 billion) died on September 21st at 94.
Charles Bradley: The acclaimed soul singer died on September 23rd at 68 years old, after a long battle with stomach cancer.
Tony Booth: The British actor known as Mike Rawlins in Till Death Do Us Part and Prime Minister Tony Blair's father in-law died on September 25th, 2 weeks shy of turning 86.
Hugh Hefner: The founder of Playboy magazine and philanthropist died on September 27th at the age of 91.
Monty Hall: The co-creator and host af game show Let's Make a Deal, which started in 1963 and still runs to this day, died of heart failure, aged 96, on September 30th.
Samuel Newhouse Jr.: The magazine publisher who owned Vogue and Vanity Fair, "Si" passed away on October 1st at 89 years old.
Tom Petty: The lead singer of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, known for their song Free Fallin', and also known for voice work on King of the Hill and a guest star on The Simpsons, died on October 2nd of cardiac arrest, aged 66.
Liam Cosgrave: The 6th Taoiseach of Ireland, serving from 1973 to 1977, died on October 4th at the age of 97, after a long illness.
Y.A. Tittle: The Hall of Fame baseball player for the San Francisco 49ers and New York Giants died on October 8th, aged 90.
Bob Schiller: A writer for sitcoms such as I Love Lucy, All in the Family, and The Carol Burnett Show died on October 10th; 98.
John Dunsworth: Most known as Jim Lahey in Trailer Park Boys and Dave Teagues in Haven perished on October 16th at the age of 71 after a short illness.
Gord Downie: The lead singer of the Canadian band The Tragically Hip died on October 17th after a year-long battle with brain cancer at the age of 53.
Mychael Knight: This Project Runway All-Star suddenly died on October 17th. He was 39 years old.
Paul J. Weitz: The pilot of Skylab 2 and the commander of the maiden voyage of the ill-fated Challenger space shuttle died on October 23rd at the age of 85.
Fats Domino: The rock and roll pioneer, known for songs such as Blueberry Hill and Ain't That a Shame, died on October 24th, aged 89.
Brad Bufanda: On November 1st, Veronica Mars star Brad Bufanda committed suicide by jumping. He was 34 years old.
Richard Gordon: This astronaut, a member of the Gemini 11 and Apollo 12 missions, and only 1 of 24 people to visit the moon, died on November 6th at 88 years old.
Roy Halladay: A notable baseball player for the Toronto Blue Jays and Philadelphia Phillies was sadly killed in a plane crash at the age of 40 on November 7th.
John Hillerman: Best known for playing Jonathan Higgins in Magnum, P.I., this American actor passed away on November 9th, aged 84.
Liz Smith: A journalist who was known for gossip column, as well as a philanthropist. She died on November 12th at the age of 94.
Bobby Doerr: A Red Sox player who was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1986, Doerr died at the age of 99 on November 13th.
Lil Peep: Emerging rapper whose style became known as "emo trap", Lil Peep died of a drug overdose on November 15th. He was just 21 years old.
Malcolm Young: The co-founder and guitarist for AC/DC died on November 18th at 64 years old after battling dementia.
Charles Manson: The evil man who was the mastermind of the Manson family died in prison at the age of 83 on November 19th.
Della Reese: An American gospel singer and one of the lead roles in Touched by an Angel passed away on November 19th. She was 86.
David Cassidy: The 70s heartthrob who played Keith Partridge in The Partridge Family and known for songs such as Daydreamer and I Think I Love You succumbed to liver failure on November 21st, aged 67.
Christine Keeler: The model known in the Profumo affair died of heart disease on December 4th at the age of 75.
Ali Abdullah Saleh: The first President of Yemen was sadly shot to death after attempting to ease an ongoing Yemeni conflict. He was 75.
Michael of Romania: The final king of Romania, who ruled from 1927 to 1930 and again from 1940 to 1947 died on December 5th at 96. He was diagnosed with leukemia the previous year.
Angry Grandpa: Internet star Charles Green, better known as Angry Grandpa form the YouTube channel TheAngryGrandpaShow, died on December 10th from cirrhosis of the liver. He was 67.
Bernard Law: The archbishop who tried to quench sex scandals in the Catholic church passed away on December 20th at the age of 86.
Dick Enberg: The sportscaster known for his catchphrase "Oh my!" was 82 when he died On December 21st.
Bruce McCandless II: The first astronaut to spacewalk without a tether died on December 21st at 80.
Heather Menzies: Menzies, best known as Louisa von Trapp in The Sound of Music lost her battle with brain cancer on December 24th; 68 years old.
Rose Marie: Hollywood survivor and one of the last vaudeville stars. She made many appearances on The Dick Van Dyke Show, The Doris Day Show and Hollywood Squares. She died on December 28th at the age of 94.
